Very sad news, Lion David T. McGarry, age 71 died on Friday August 25th at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Mr. McGarry was born in North Plainfield, raised in Plainfield before moving to Green Brook 38 years ago. He graduated from Seton Hall University with a B.S. in management and received an MBA in finance from The Stern School of Business at NYU in 1965. He started his career at Chase Manhattan Bank where he worked for 20 years serving as a Vice President; he then became the Vice President Finance of Lygnos Brothers Shipping Co. in Englewood Cliffs, he was with the company for 22 years retiring in 1998. He served as Mayor of Green Brook in 1988 and also served on the Zoning Board and Township Committee. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Stony Hill Church in Watchung, and was the past President of The Green Brook Lions Club. Mr. McGarry loved tennis and was an avid Giants fan and was a season ticket holder since the stadium opened. Surviving are his wife of 43 years Linda McGarry, a son David McGarry and his wife Deborah of Naperville IL, a daughter Debra Ritchie and her husband Thomas of Darien, CT., two brothers Joseph McGarry of Cambridge, MN and James McGarry of North Plainfield, a sister Katherine Daley of Bridgewater, his mother -in-law Gerda Fiebig of North Plainfield, and three grandchildren Bridget, Owen and Jack. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 29th at Higgins Home For Funerals 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Stony Hill Church in Watchung. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Green Brook Lions Club, David T. McGarry Scholarship Fund c/o Kenneth Hermann, Pres., 134 Deer Run, Watchung, NJ 07069. First meeting will be held on September 19th. Since the Willows is still under construction, the meeting place is still unknown.
